Practice

I figured out on the summer travels that embroidery projects make the perfect take along. Now, I know that I am not all that wonderful at this stitching, but then I wasn’t all that skilled at appliqué when I started that either.

So, practice practice practice…..

Don’t you just love Kathy Schmitz patterns?(oh crap, I just went to her website to get the link and ended up ordering more patterns)

She framed hers, but I think I’ll add some blocks or borders and make this into a pillow. Good thing tomorrow’s to-do list has a stop at Joann’s on it, I’ll get the pillow form first and work backwards into the border and/or blocks.

Woot!

during our travels, I was able to finish some handwork….including my border blocks for the Scandinavian Christmas.

And now it’s together and ready to prep for quilting.

I’m thinking this is going to be a Christmas gift for a certain someone, so I guess I better not delay on getting this prepped for hand quilting.

California moments

We made it home safe and sound from a whirlwind nine days in California, but the wonder of the trip stays with us.

Our travels of late are focused on introducing our kids to the magic of this country, the beauty of the landscape and the wonderful people you meet along the way, like the owner of a little Mexican restaurant who makes his own tequila, or the man who hiked up the Half Dome in Yosemite 62 times, or the owner of a west coast longboard company who sold us a board.

And for me, my little slice of heaven was a stop at French General in LA.  It’s really an out of the way little shop, unless of course you convince your family to go to the Zoo, then it’s right nearby!  But once inside, you are transported into a magical place of crafts and fabrics and paper and beads and do-dads, and thingamajigs.

I met the fabulous Molly there and we talked about NY and when they had their shop downtown, and about NY moments.  And I restrained myself and only came out of the shop with one bag

So now we are home and the laundry is done and the next adventure is school!
